Image
Microsoft Launcher version 6.2.200706 is now rolling out on the Google Play Store. It brings landscape mode and a new Feed design. The features were first spotted in the beta version a couple of months ago. While I don’t hold my phone horizontally, major launchers including Google ‘s Pixel Launcher have had landscape mode support for a long time. It’s good to see Microsoft finally bringing it to the stable version of its launcher. The changelog also hints that the launcher is now more memory-efficient. Further, Microsoft Feed is getting a redesign as well. For the unfamiliar, Feed sits on the minus one pane on your home screen. It shows information from various Microsoft services. With the latest update, Feed gets a blurred background and more even spacing between cards. You can download the stable release from APKMirror . Gionee K3 Pro unveiled in China with Helio P60, weird fingerprint sensor location

Image
Gionee made the K3 Pro official in China today, and we can't decide what's weirder about it: the fact that it runs Android 9 Pie or the location of its fingerprint sensor. Let's elaborate. It's 2020, and Google is going to release Android 11 in a few weeks. And yet this phone ships not with last year's Android 10, but Android 9 Pie from 2018, for some reason. Next – the fingerprint scanner. Look at the image above and try and guess where it's at. If you were thinking it's the bottom right circle in the camera island, you were right. We've seen scanners sort of integrated with camera islands before, but of the elongated variety, and crucially – islands that were centered on the rear. This one is neither. So that's probably not going to be a very smooth sailing unlocking experience every single time. The design is 'smart', as in yeah, sure, it is cleaner than with a centered sensor outside of the island, but usability-wise, this seems lik

Microsoft is supporting Epic Games against Apple

Image
Epic Games is now being supported by Microsoft, as the company believes that Apple should restrict Epic’s access to developer tools on iOS and Mac. The latest chapter in the Apple VS Epic Games saga now features Microsoft. The software and tech giant believes that Apple’s actions would damage a “critical technology” form many game creators. This is because Epic’s Unreal Engine is a tool used by several developers and studios around the planet to build games, VR experiences, and special effects in TV shows and movies. “Denying Epic access to Apple’s SDK and other development tools will prevent Epic from supporting Unreal Engine on iOS and macOS, and will place Unreal Engine and those game creators that have built, are building, and may build games on it at a substantial disadvantage. “(a)Developing a game using different game engines for different platforms may be prohibitively expensive and difficult. In any event, it is not as cost-effective as using a game engine that supports d

Apple allegedly planning to revoke iOS support for Epic’s Unreal Engine

Image
Epic Games fanned the embers of war recently when it took on two of the biggest players in the smartphone industry, talking of Google and Apple. The game publisher switched the system of payment on its popular game Fortnite in favour of receiving payment directly for in-app purchases. Subsequently, Fortnite was removed by both Google and Apple from the Play Store and App Store respectively. Epic Games’ sole aim was to challenge the distribution monopolies held by both Apple and Google on Android and iOS. Of course, the dispute has headed to the law court but Apple doesn’t seem intent on waiting for a verdict. Epic Games has reportedly raised an alarm that Apple has threatened to cease support for Unreal Engine from its ecosystem unless it complies with the contentious App Store policy. Unreal Engine is a free-to-start game engine that is popular among game publishers and is utilised by many developers around the world who deploy the engine to develop games for different platforms,

New iPhone 12 lineup will most likely lack 120Hz displays

We have received several rumors concerning the displays of the upcoming iPhone 12 lineup. Some suggest that they will include 120Hz refresh rates in the high-end models , while others claim that they will miss out on this feature for various reasons . The latest rumor comes from Ross Young, and he doesn’t have good news for those Apple fans who expected 120Hz displays in their next iPhone. According to Ross Young, the new iPhone 12 series will miss out on 120Hz refresh rates. It seems that Apple will be able to get 120Hz Pro panels, but they will lack the 120Hz driver ICs. Apple could further delay the launch of the iPhone 12, or stick with the current 60Hz, and it seems that Cupertino will go for the second option. This is a major bummer for Apple fans, especially when we consider that 120Hz refresh rate displays are available in almost every Android flagship, some even reaching 144Hz. Whatever the case, Apple will someday catch up to 120Hz and give it a fancy name that will driv

Samsung Galaxy Note20 Ultra and Galaxy Tab S7 users complain about green tint on display

The green tint problem on the display of Samsung devices has found new victims. After plaguing Galaxy S20 Ultra users for a while, users are now reporting issues with their pricey new Galaxy Note20 Ultra as well as the Galaxy Tab S7 duo ( via SamMobile ). We’ve come across multiple reports on Reddit documenting the weird green tint issue concerning the aforementioned devices. As per user complaints shared on Reddit and the official Samsung community forum , both the Exynos and Snapdragon-powered variants of the Galaxy Note20 Ultra are plagued by the issue. The green tint becomes noticeable when brightness is set to low levels. It appears that the problem is associated with faulty hardware, as one of the affected users claims to have got a replacement unit that worked just fine. Samsung’s Find My Mobile app can now track your phone without an internet connection

Samsung has added a new nifty new tool to its Find My Mobile app that will make it easier to locate your lost or misplaced phone, and that functionality is offline tracking. First spotted by Max Weinbach of XDA-Developers , the offline tracking ability is already live in Samsung’s Find My Mobile app under the name ‘Offline Finding’. Essentially, if mobile data and Wi-Fi connectivity on your lost device have been turned off, you can use another Samsung Galaxy smartphone to find it. The feature arrived with v7.1.08.0 build of Samsung’s Find My Mobile app via an update, however, it is not enabled by default. Users can also choose to enable a toggle that encrypts their offline location for added privacy. If you have Offline Finding enabled on your lost phone and other users can also access the new feature on their device, they’ll be able to scan for your lost phone. In addition to smartphones, the new Find My Mobile feature also works for smartwatches and earbuds if your phone or tablet

Xiaomi fans push company to launch Mi 10 Ultra smartphone globally

Image
Xiaomi recently launched the Mi 10 Ultra smartphone along with the Redmi K30 Ultra , marking the company’s 10th anniversary. However, the company revealed that the phones are limited to the Chinese markets only and there’s no plan for a global launch. This apparently didn’t sit well with the company’s fans. They are now pushing the company to launch the Mi 10 Ultra smartphone globally. Someone has started a Change.org petition for this and it is now getting traction. A couple of weeks ago, Daniel D, Senior Product Marketing Manager and Global Spokesperson for Xiaomi, had confirmed that there are no plans for a global release of Mi 10 Ultra, Redmi K30 Ultra, Mi TV Lux Transparent Edition , and the Ninebot GoKart Pro Lamborghini Edition. Russia is reportedly ready to work with Huawei for 5G infrastructure development

Image
At a time when many countries are shutting their doors for Huawei to develop telecom infrastructure, Russia seems to be ready to take a different route. As per the report from Reuters , Huawei Technologies could be a part of Russia’s 5G technology. The report reveals that the Interfax news agency has cited Russia’s Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov saying that they are ready to co-operate with China and Huawei Technologies for the development of 5G technology in Moscow. Another report says that during a Q&A session at the “Territory of Meanings” forum, the minister insisted that Russia has no intention to “follow the example” of the United States “who simply demand not to cooperate on 5G with China and, in particular, with Huawei”. Instead of following the United States, Lavrov says that Russia is interested in working together with other countries to jointly develop and implement modern technologies.
