Samsung trademarks “UTG”, could mean Ultra Thin Glass for Z Flip and future Samsung foldables

Image
Apple iPhone 11 review Foldable smartphones are certainly gaining a lot of attention as the new form factor challenges smartphone design as we know it. While we saw foldable smartphones and displays over the last year or so, they were all made with fragile plastic lenses atop the display panels. These are very easy to scratch and can easily cause damage to an otherwise expensive device. Rumors suggested that Samsung’s upcoming Z Flip smartphone will use a new ultra-thin type of glass. The latest report from LetsGoDigital suggests a new patent from Samsung’s lawyers submitted to the EUIPO (European Union Intellectual Property Office) indirectly confirms the rumor about foldable glass. The UTG trademark logo may stand for “Ultra Thin Glass” and could be Samsung’s branding to market the foldable display glass against its competitors. The trademark would be used for Samsung’s foldable devices, and the design in the “G” reflects that. Glass is more durable and scratch resistant than p

FCC writes letter to Congress finding that “one or more” US carriers sold customer location data

Image
Apple iPhone 11 review Over a year and a half ago, each of the four major US carriers was in some way involved with an incident that revealed how carriers were selling location data of its subscribers to whoever wanted to pay for them. It involved a couple of “middle men” companies who could eventually sell location data to whoever wanted to buy it. It eventually involved Securus, a prison company that used carrier information to track phones without owners’ permission. On Friday, FCC Chairman Ajit Pai sent a letter to key members of Congress, declaring that the FCC has conducted its investigation and concluded that either one or multiple US carriers have broken federal law by this practice. […] regarding the status of the FCC’s investigation into the disclosure of consumers’ real-time location data[…] I wish to inform you that the FCC’s Enforcement Bureau has completed its extensive investigation and that it has concluded that one or more wireless carriers apparently violated fed

Huawei surpasses Apple in entire 2019 shipment ranking; Xiaomi, OPPO make top 5

Image
Three of the major market research firms Counterpoint, Canalys and Strategy Analytics (SA) have all published their report showing the shipping estimates of the major smartphone companies. The data all seem to correspond with each other and shows Samsung retained its position as the number one brand in terms of smartphone shipment for the whole of 2019. Huawei maintained its 2018 record by staying ahead of Apple to become the world’s second best selling smartphone manufacturer in 2019. This is especially surprising considering that the brand has been grappling with an obnoxious ban by the US government hinged on security concerns. Huawei shipped an estimated 240 million mobile phones, a tad higher than its entire shipment in 2018. On the other hand, Apple managed to corner 200 million units, representing a slight drop in shipment. 7 Essential writing apps for iOS

Back in the day, if you wanted to do any writing like this, you’d either use a pen or a typewriter. It was because of this that, if you had a plan to write a book, you had to allocate some time to sit and contemplate. Finding time in your busy daily schedule sit in a room and type on a device like that was difficult. Now though, entire novels are being written on smartphones and iPads. We’re seeing people noting down those inspiring thoughts and ideas when they actually occur, rather than having to scribble them down on a bit of paper and come back to them later. Had an idea just as you’re about to fall asleep? Years ago you’d perhaps have to hope that you remembered it in the morning so that you can include it in a story, an article, an essay or a piece of research. Nowadays, you can write whenever, wherever. Smartphones are at the heart of business, our social lives and they’ve transformed the way we communicate. For iPhone users, writing is now better than ever. If you’re looking
